What Is a Blepharoplasty?

What to Expect During Eyelid Surgery

For upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made in the crease between the top of the lid and the bottom of the brow. With lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Tarbet performs the incision either just below the lower lash line or inside the lid itself.

Next, unwanted skin and fat can be removed and, if necessary, small amounts of fat can be repositioned to create a more flattering or symmetrical look. Muscle tissue may also be tightened at this time. Once your surgery is complete, all incisions will be closed with sutures, and gauze and a lubricating ointment may also be applied.

 

What to Expect After Eyelid Surgery

You will be given comprehensive aftercare instructions to guide you through your blepharoplasty recovery. To support the healing process and achieve the best possible outcome, be sure to:

• Sleep with your head elevated during the initial days of your recovery
• Avoid rubbing your eyes
• Use prescribed eye drops as directed
• Protect your eyelids from exposure to sun, wind, force, and other irritants
• Abstain from smoking, vigorous exercise, and wearing contact lenses until otherwise advised by Dr. Tarbet
• Attend follow-up appointments with Dr. Tarbet

Blepharoplasty Results

Post-op swelling and bruising will diminish significantly within 14 days of your procedure, and initial improvements may be noticeable at that time. However, you will not arrive at your final results until healing is complete, which will take several weeks.
